About Claron Lodge

We moved to Claron Lodge in 2012. When we arrived, the house was in need of a little TLC though we loved the many original 1960’s touches and saw its great potential.

The house has an interesting history, comprising elements from the 70’s, 60’s, 50’s and earlier. Part was the garage and servant’s quarters for Claron Way, a substantial property advertised for sale by Harrod’s Estate Agents in 1959 as a ‘house of charming character. Part dating from the 16th century but enlarged, modernised and equipped without regards to cost.’

Shortly after this, the property was sold separately from Claron Way and the then owners made substantial additions in the 1960’s and early 70’s. We understand that the lady of the house at that time had been a homes and interiors journalist which would explain the many lovely features contemporary to that time.

We started renovations in 2014, and this remains a work in progress and labour of love. Where have we got to on this journey? Think Channel Four's 'Grand Designs', just before the second ad break!  Because of this there may be some building noise during the daytime, though not before 9am or after 6:30pm.

Our approach to all work on the property is to repurpose and upcycle wherever possible. This is better for the planet, but will also make the house so much more interesting. We have salvaged everything from structural timbers and steelwork to light fittings.

We can only apologise that the garden does currently include several piles of rubble – the walls removed from the house as part of the renovation work which we plan to use in other projects. We trust this will not impact on your enjoyment of your stay.
